KIOSC is a $10.3m high tech learning centre that will give students the opportunity to develop the new “green” skills essential for success in the workplace of the future. With a focus on environmentally sustainable skills and technologies, KIOSC will provide a learning environment where students can make more informed decisions about their future, build their skills for employment and improve their career prospects. |
KIOSC will offer senior secondary students a range of integrated and flexible programs including VCE specialist studies and nationally recognised vocational qualifications across the science, technology, engineering, electro technology, art and design disciplines. The successful completion of a specialist vocational qualification as part of the student’s Year 12 certificate could lead directly to employment or to further study at TAFE or university. |
KIOSC emphasises practical learning experiences through a range of programs that place students in “real world” environments. By linking with industry groups, government agencies and the local community, students will have the opportunity to undertake industry visits and structured workplace learning placements as part of their VCE or VCAL program.
Students may also choose to commence a cadetship program or undertake a school based apprenticeship. Specialist career advice and mentoring will also add value to their learning experiences. |
Commencing in 2011, students can study nationally recognised vocational qualifications in Laboratory Skills and Printing and Graphic Arts. In 2012, once KIOSC is fully operational, qualifications in engineering, electro technology, manufacturing technology and renewable energy will be offered. KIOSC will also feature an Interactive Discovery
Centre for students in
Years 7 -12 that will promote green industry careers, linking training pathways in science, engineering and sustainable industry technologies to integrated hands
on curriculum. |
KIOSC is a joint initiative of secondary schools in the City of Knox and Swinburne University of Technology.
